Pump Station Operations & Maintenance

The Treatment Systems Division is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of 30 pump stations that are located throughout the City. These facilities move sewage in stepwise fashion from lower elevations to higher elevations until ultimately discharging to the wastewater treatment plant. South Portland’s pump stations range in size from small fairly simple systems that receive only a few thousand gallons a day to very large sophisticated facilities that are capable of pumping millions of gallons a day. The graphical user interface pictured below provides an example of the computerized monitoring system that also allows the pump stations to be remotely controlled.
