The South Portland Historical Society’s museum – the Cushing’s Point Museum at Bug Light Park – will open for the 2016 season on Sunday, May 1. The museum will then be open every day from 10am to 4pm, through October 30. Exhibits for the 2016 season include 100 years of Shipbuilding in South Portland (sponsored by Bath Savings Institution), Lighthouses and their Keepers, the Civil War, Sardine Factories, and South Portland's harness racing tracks. Also, the featured neighborhood exhibit for this year will be the Ferry Village neighborhood ~ the neighborhood exhibit is being sponsored by Town & Country Federal Credit Union, Noyes Hall & Allen Insurance, O'Hare Associates CTRS, and the Marc Gup team at Keller Williams Realty.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Society is still seeking volunteers to help run its museum and gift shop. If you like history and enjoy meeting people, please check out our Volunteer Opportunities.
To find the museum, take Broadway east to the ocean, turn left onto Breakwater Drive, then turn right on Madison Street that leads right into the park. The museum is free, although donations are very welcome. We also encourage residents to support the historical society and museum by becoming a member of the Society. For information on membership, please visit our Membership page or our South Portland Historical Society Facebook page.
We hope to see you at the museum this year!
