PLEASE NOTE:

 
There will be no City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 20.
Planning and Code Enforcement Offices will be closed on Monday, September 19. City staff will be participating in training these days so we can serve you better in the future.

The next City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, September 27, where the Council will have a third workshop on rent stabilization.

ELECTION DAY IS NOVEMBER 8, 2022

Absentee ballots may now be requested! Click here to request your absentee ballot online. For more information, please visit: www.southportland.org/elections
  • In-person absentee voting will begin at City Hall once ballots arrive (around October 8)
  • Have you recently moved? Changed your name? Make sure you’re registered to vote! 
  • All polling places will be open on Election Day from 7:00am-8:00pm

The South Portland Land Trust will celebrate the opening of its newest recreational trail, the Clark's Pond Extension Trail, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 24 at 10 AM. The ribbon cutting, being held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day, will take place along a new portion of the trail, located between the Maine Air National Guard and the Irving station (along Western Avenue).

Coming Up at the Library

Wednesday, September 21st at 4PM: A Discussion of the new “Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens Program” with Jim Thomas, City Assessor. Learn how seniors can freeze their property taxes at this informative event. Questions will be answered and all required paperwork will be provided.

Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30PM: A presentation by Colin Woodard, New York Times bestselling author of the new book The Lobster Coast: The past, present and future of coastal Maine. Books will be available for purchase.

Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30PM: The Maine Community Cookbook Vol. 2 authors Margaret Hathaway, Karl Schatz, and Don Lindgren are coming to discuss their new book. 

Thursday, October 20th at 6:30PM: Our first Author Talk of the year is taking place with Cape Elizabeth author Richard Cass. He will be discussing his new book The Last Altruist. Books will be available to purchase.

Sept. 20 (National Voter Registration Day!), Sept. 28 & Oct. 4, from 1 to 4 each day will be Voter Registration at the Main Library.

On August 22, 2022, the City of South Portland presented Red's Dairy Freeze with a Proclamation recognizing and celebrating its 70th anniversary.
This week we broke ground on the South Portland Skatepark! The park is expected to be completed by late November of this year.
