Message to Our Community

The City would like to share the following message, which we recently shared with our community on Facebook and Instagram.
It's been a hard few days. The City of South Portland grieves alongside everyone affected by the tragic events in Lewiston. Whether you were directly impacted by the violence or are struggling with how to explain it to your kids, know that City of South Portland officials and leadership staff are holding you in our thoughts.

Please know that if you or someone you care about is in need of support, the Crisis Lifeline is a few numbers away. Dial 988 for help.

The City of South Portland would like to thank law enforcement, including South Portland Police officers, who are working tirelessly with State Police and other agencies to locate and arrest the suspect. Thanks, too, to the medical providers for caring for those who were injured or worse. This includes South Portland Fire Department paramedics who have been deployed and stand ready to assist. We appreciate your ongoing work and hope the situation resolves very soon.

Finally, thanks to everyone here in South Portland, in the Lewiston area, and all across the state for being there for each other. This is not “the way life should be,” but today in Maine this is the way life is. It is because of all of you who do good and spread kindness on a daily basis that our community will heal.
