Notary Public Services

All staff in the Clerk's office are Notaries Public in the State of Maine and can perform notary services.  

Notary services must be performed in person only.  Please bring your ID along with all documents requiring notarization. The cost is $3.00 per notarization, with the exception of marriage ceremonies ($50).  Appointments are not needed for notary services, with the exception of marriage ceremonies.  For more information on what a notary public can do, please click here.

Dedimus Justice

Dedimus Justices perform a single function under Maine statute, that of swearing in various public officials, including Notaries Public.  The office is a lifetime appointment by the Governor. The City Clerk is a Dedimus Justice.   If you require the service of a Dedimus Justice, please contact Emily Scully at (207) 767-7627 or escully@southportland.org to ensure she is available.    For more information on what a Dedimus Justice can do, please click here.  You will need to bring your oath paperwork and ID to the appointment.  This service is offered at no charge.
