South Portland Historical Society operates the Cushing's Point Museum at Bug Light Park. Run primarily by a volunteer staff, the museum is open every day from 10am to 4pm from May through October, as well as on weekends in November and December. The Society's archives and offices are located in the museum building, as well, and material in the archives may be accessed by appointment year round.

There are several events which the historical society sponsors each year, including the Bug Light Kite Festival each May and the annual Independence Day Classic Car Show; additional educational programming and lectures are offered throughout the year.

South Portland Historical Society offers a college internship program; please call us at 767-7299 if you are interested in applying. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by its membership, and employs an Executive Director to oversee the daily operation of the organization.
