Did you know that every ton of our GREEN bin waste ( TRASH ) that is diverted to our BLUE bins ( SINGLE SORT RECYCLING ) saves the city $22? That is a 21% savings!!! So, do you want to help reduce our city’s waste management costs and help fund progress to a sustainable future, but aren’t sure how? No problem!!!
When it comes to recycling, there’s no need to feel BLUE, Just remember your FANTASTIC FOUR :
1) PAPER . Junk mail, newspaper, cereal boxes, and corrugated. Fold or it break-down to save space in your bin.
2) GLASS . Clear, green, and brown glass. Lids off.
3) CANS . Drink cans, food cans, and metal containers. No scrap metal.
4) RIGID PLASTIC CONTAINERS . #1 -7.
Remember: glass, metal, and plastic containers should be empty and given a quick rinse.
PRO TIP : Keep it loose! Plastic bags go in the TRASH , or in some cases can be recycled at the point of use. (Ask your grocer.) Many items that are not listed above can be recycled, but cannot be placed in the curbside, single-sort bins. If you have questions, check out EcoMaine’s Recyclopedia: https://www.ecomaine.org/app/ ;
